AROONA upgrades your city’s network infrastructure
Marburg City, Germany
The issue
The city of Marburg has been modernizing its telecommunications infrastructure for several years. The existing 100 Mb/s network required upgrading due to growing demand for high-speed throughput linked to new digital services.
The city of Marburg wanted to establish a 10 Gb/s connection between the core municipal network and the technical center, situated 580 m apart. The link would be provided using the existing multimode fiber network linking the city’s many municipal sites.
The AROONA solution
AROONA-STAR enabled the rapid upgrade of the link by building on the existing fiber network. Two dedicated strands provide a 10 Gb/s duplex link over OM3 multimode fiber, which was installed in just a few hours. Two further strands provide a wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) link, transmitting 4 channels at 10 Gb/s over the multimode link.
The benefits of the solution
- Multiple 10 Gb/s channels on a 580 m multimode link
- Implementation of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) on multimode fiber
- No heavy public works to deploy single-mode fiber
